Sourced from Mecota PLC, this premium coffee comes from the heart of Ethiopia’s renowned coffee regions, thanks to a unique partnership with Moata (Mo) Raya and his wife Rosa.
Moata, affectionately known as Mo, along with Rosa, founded Mecota PLC with a vision to craft the finest Ethiopian coffee. Mo’s journey into the coffee world is rooted in his profound love and deep respect for coffee cultivation that began in his hometown of Jimma. Armed with a degree in Plant Sciences and further training as an MSc candidate in Agribusiness and Value Chain Management, Mo is a seasoned coffee agronomist, quality, and marketing expert with over 12 years of specialized experience.
Before establishing Mecota PLC, Mo’s career was dedicated to improving coffee quality and sustainability in Ethiopia. His roles ranged from coffee quality trainer to managing farm and wet mill operations, to senior consultancy positions focusing on coffee quality assurance. Notably, during his time with Technoserve Ethiopia’s coffee initiative under the Nespresso sustainable quality wet mill program, Mo made significant contributions in mapping Sidama coffee profiles and enhancing quality control practices for washed coffees.
Mo’s expertise doesn’t stop at coffee agriculture; he is a master at building capacity within the coffee growing community. His work has spanned demonstrating agricultural best practices, providing training on quality control, accounting, and cooperative management. This vast range of experiences has enabled Mo to influence and instill a culture of excellence and sustainable practices among the smallholder coffee farmers he partners with.
Through Mecota PLC, Mo and Rosa have made it their mission to finance producers at origin, enabling the purchase of prime red coffee cherries from local farmers. Mo’s hands-on approach and 19 years of coffee production experience allow him to co-produce both washed and natural green coffees in Sidamo and Jimma regions to perfection. This commitment to excellence and partnership with local communities is at the core of what makes our Natural Grade 1 Sidamo coffee truly special.
